Digital Camcorders

!±8± Digital Camcorders

Containing a camera and video recorder in one unit, a camcorder is a portable electronic device (usually a digital camera) for recording video and audio images. Sony, followed by Kodak in 1984, first launched the camcorder in 1983. In its early stages, camcorders were large devices that required a sturdy tripod or strong shoulders to stably support the camera's bulk.

Following a continuous process of evolution, the camcorder in the late 1990s entered the digital era with the introduction of the miniDV. As its cassette media was even smaller than 8mm media, it became possible to reduce the size of the tape transport assembly. The digital nature of miniDV led to far better audio and video quality than the best of its analog counterparts.

When the camcorder was first launched, it was a bulky shoulder-operated luggable that more than ,500. Today, an entry-level MiniDV camcorder costs less than 0 and fits in the palm of a person's hand.

A digital camcorder is the perfect tool to record your child's first steps, or even shoot a film for the coming film festival! When you want to buy a camcorder, you should take into account its user-friendliness and affordability. In any case, if you are not going to compromise on the exact image quality, a digital version is your best option. Digital camcorders come in different formats that include MiniDV, DVD-R, DVD-RAM and flash memory-based recorders. Your choice will also depend on what you wish to do - record directly to standard DVDs or need maximum flexibility when you begin to edit your footage.

Camcorders are used in almost every aspect of electronic media, from news organizations to TV/current-affairs productions. In locations where there is no distribution infrastructure, camcorders record the initial video. For casual use, camcorders mostly cover marriage ceremonies, birthdays, graduation ceremonies, and other personal events. Political protestors, animal rights protestors and even voyeurs now use camcorders to suit their own needs.

Mini Dvd Camcorders

!±8± Mini Dvd Camcorders

For years Dv format and its corresponding camcorders ruled the market. However, in the new years, there has been new improvement in audiovisual technology and today we find the popularity of an additional one format growing by the day. This is the Dvd format.

The Dvd format has many advantages over the other formats. In terms of cost we find that because of its popularity, the Dvd format ends up being very cost effective. Not only is the warehouse media very cheap and widely available, it is also very easy to replacement or store files in this format since the warehouse as well as the recording is totally digital. Then comes the ease of conversion. With the proliferation of computers, this becomes very easy too. All that one needs is a computer and the right software to edit, convert, copy or store a Dvd media.

The format and the sector are growing rapidly and practically all players, beginning with Sony, Hitachi and Panasonic, have entered the market; each is rolling out more than one Mini Dvd camcorder.

The most leading variation in the middle of a Mini Dvd format and a regular digital video is that Mini Dvds article video and image into a mini Dvd disc, whereas others article into a Dv Tape. There are a lot of inherent advantages to this. The first is that Dvd discs are smaller and hence easier to store. They are also cheaper, more widely ready and are a more robust medium for storing video. Besides there is no fear of the tape being eaten up like in a Dv tape format.

Another advantage of a Mini Dvd format is that the recorded disc is not sequential, unlike a Dv tape. You can randomly passage whatever from any part of the Dvd disc. Thus there is no interrogate of wasting power and time on rewind and fast-forward. The clip one wants can directly be superior from the menu. Like the Dv tape format, there are Mini Dvd cameras evolving, which allow one to achieve basic editing functions on the camera itself. Also one can just take a recently recorded Mini Dvd and play it on practically any Dvd player.

There is, however, one major disadvantage with the Mini Dvd format. The video here is encoded in Mpeg-2 formats. This means that one needs specialized software that can edit Mpeg-2 format.

However, if there is no great need for editing, a Mini Dvd would be the ideal format. It is believed be the format of the future.
